Visiting DESY
The research centre DESY is one of the world’s leading accelerator centres to investigate the structure of matter. It develops and builds large accelerator facilities that bring particles to extremely high energies. Scientists from around the world do research at these particle racetracks. Physicists, chemists, geologists, biologists, medical researchers and materials scientists use the special light from DESY’s accelerators to observe structures and processes in the microcosm. Particle physicists investigate the fundamental building blocks and forces of the universe.
DESY invites you to travel through the world of smallest particles and to see things in a different light. Book a time travel into the universe and have an X-ray vision of tomorrow’s technology.
DESY is open for all interested people and no special physics knowledge is required for the tour. DESY has two locations, one in Hamburg and one in Zeuthen (Brandenburg). In Hamburg you will see the city’s largest research centre with different accelerator facilities and unique light sources. A special field of research in Zeuthen is the hunt for neutrinos in the Antarctic ice.
