Fellowship Program
Young scientists can conduct research at DESY as “fellows” for two years.
DESY announces the DESY Fellowship Programme in experimental particle physics and accelerator physics. Fellows in Experimental Particle Physics are invited to participate in DESY’s physics research:
- experimental particle physics
- theoretical particle physics
- photon science
- accelerator physics
Experimental particle physics
Fellows in experimental particle physics are invited to participate in DESY’s particle physics research: The HERA experiments H1, ZEUS, HERMES, the LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS at CERN, the AMANDA/IceCube experiment at the south pole and the preparations for experimentation at the future International Linear Collider ILC and R&D in particle detectors (FLC group).
Theoretical particle physics
Qualified fellows are invited to participate in Theoretical Particle Physics research within the DESY theory groups. At DESY in Hamburg, active areas of research include HERA physics and QCD, B physics, collider physics, neutrino physics and cosmology, unified theories, string theory and mathematical physics. At DESY in Zeuthen, the theoretical research includes lattice gauge theory, perturbative quantum field theory and physics at HERA, LHC and the projected ILC.
Photon science
Fellows in photon science are invited to participate in DESY’s research at the HASYLAB, which uses the storage rings DORIS and PETRA and the free electron laser FLASH
Accelerator physics
Fellows in accelerator physics will contribute to the development, construction and operation of accelerator facilities (HERA, DORIS, FLASH, PETRA III, XFEL, ILC, PITZ).
Concerning all job offers:
DESY Fellowships are awarded for a duration of two years with the possibility of a prolongation by one additional year. The salary for the fellowship is according to tariffs applicable for public service work. Handicapped persons will be given preference to other equally qualified applicants. DESY supports the careers of women and therefore encourages especially women to apply.
As DESY has laboratories at two sites in Hamburg and in Zeuthen near Berlin, applicants may indicate at which location they would prefer to work (exception: research with photons, which is only done at Hamburg).
